Roy Garringer Post 36 hosts 71st Annual Powder River Party November 11!
In 1946, the American Legion Post 36 decided to have a big Veterans Day celebration. It was decided that following a football game with Butte, Neb. a western party would be held at the City Hall - western wear, music, games and fun. Powder River had its beginning. The celebration included a show, hosting a dance and sometimes offering a costume party.
Ray Hebert wrote between 22-24 plays, sometimes collaboratively. The current Powder River cast rotates through 7 of them. Hebert and Slick Honner originally directed and created props & scenery and Bob Hausmann, Sr. began directing shows in the 1980’s. Gene Schmitz stepped in as director in 2000 and continues that role today. Greg Hausmann now take cares of props & scenery, following his father, Don’s role.
